Today my Grandmama passed away. She was in her 80s and had multiple strokes in her life. She was born in Stettin, Germany (now Szczecin, Poland) and ran from the red army when she was 17. Settled in Cologne she had my half-aunt and uncles before her husband got a job in Australia and she immigrated just after him. They divorced and she met up with my Granddad, then my mum was born.
Yep, pretty crazy history! I remember visiting her home and staring at her tapestry of medieval unicorns and women. She had been in a high level nursing home for almost two decades and hated every minute of it so I’m glad she’s out of pain and misery.
Rest in Piece Bridgette.
My earlier rant about Ikea ended up being unfounded. They had the TV cabinet I wanted, IN ABUNDANCE! Anyway… it was almost 40 degrees Celsius so I can’t be held responsible for my thoughts. :P
My cat who is afraid of everything, even when you bring in the shopping bags, is cool with building Ikea furniture. She just loves being all over you and sleeping on everything when you’re building. At least be consistent, silly kitty!
Since it’s summer holidays and already meltingly hot I have nothing to do but get frustrated by Ikea.
They have a TV cabinet on the website. I see it in store on display but while buying other things I forget to buy said cabinet. Next day I go back online to check measurements and it’s not there anymore. Now I’m worried they’ve suddenly pulled it.
Another item I wanted to buy wasn’t online but I saw it on display and thought “yes, I CAN get it!” but it wasn’t in the racks and worker told us it had been pulled for faultiness or whatever.
Plus, another item had messed up numbers so I didn’t know if I was buying the right item (thus I chose not to).
FHDFJH! Get your act together, Adelaide Ikea!
Our trip in Jan/Feb is all coming together. Bought tickets to the National Gallery in London’s Strange Beauty: German Renaissance exhibition. So excited to stare at some Holbein, Dürer and Cranach (well, more of the latter two and first time for Holbein)!
And I finished my exam on Saturday so Uni is officially finished for this year! Time to relaaaax and plan this trip. So many things to see and do in Tokyo, eee! And mooorre London, and tiny trip in Helsinki, and possibly Madrid to go to the del Prado and eat tapas haha.
Basically, when I travel it’s all about the art. ARRRTT! Soak my eyeballs all up in it. :P Nom nom! /have gone crazy
Haven’t been around much but my laptop died and I had to go to the Apple store three times in only six days trying to get it all sorted. First they didn’t have the part and didn’t know when it’d arrive if ever, 2 days later it’s in. Then I go in and they’re just like “Hand me your device. Okay, bye. Will call you.” Umm… and I waited around in town as long as I could but went home and they called me just before closing that night, argghh! So I had to go back a third time to pick it up. :P And the problem was a faulty flash drive on my model of macbook air which the internet said would be fixed free of charge. The store’s invoice said they did charge me but I had apple care so it was covered. Ummm, sure I didn’t have to pay but it was like a recall thing that shouldn’t have been charged. APPPLLLEEE *shakes fists*
Anyway, now I’m just playing Harvest Moon on my 3DS and pretending I don’t have an exam tomorrow. :P
137 pages and I’m caught up with tumblr that I missed while Apple was fixing my laptop.
The “exhibition” I created as part of my Northern Renaissance course assignments. With Lucas Cranach the Elder’s Judith as my primary image and Titian, Dürer, Botticelli, Grünewald and other Cranach works as my secondary images with a general theme of ‘women worthies’.
I feel like I could have chosen something better to add than St Elizabeth of Thuringia but oh well.
We were allowed to include two Italian Renaissance images in the same theme as our primary image for comparison.
And it’s even more hot today! Granted I got through 3 lots of washing. Oh yeah! Warm and toasty like as if I had a dryer lol.
November starts and it’s instantly summer. Air-conditioner is on all day because our bedroom window faces the sunrise and is huge, thus super hot all day and night. Ugh, I hate heat. :P Looking at all the snuggly reindeer sweaters and christmas socks and gorgeous coats online makes me sad. I only wore my jacket here in Adelaide winter for a week even.
On the plus side, all our flights are booked for some winter time in Tokyo, London and Helsinki. With a possible trip to Madrid during (because tapas and Museo del Prado basically lol).
Somehow my partner and I squeezed Helsinki into our trip between Tokyo and London.
